Life in a Metro

"Change in all things is sweet." - This was originally said by Aristotle.

But now I have a change that is 'sweet n sour'. A small change in job+location is what i am referring to. As a software engineer I always believed that i should change my job after 2 years(because the pay becomes double), but as time went by, i realised that money is not the only thing in life ; there are some others like friends, family, relationships, comfort zone etc.

While trivandrum is hardly 110 kms from my hometown, mumbai is 1300 kms from it. There is a huge difference, which i realised after i started my life in mumbai. I couldn't go back to my house to play fifa on every weekend. I couldn't get my sisters to wash my clothes.. and i couldn't fight with my parents for not doing anything but sitting in front of the comp!!. And of course i miss the 110 Kms long bike journey to my house from Tvm .

Life in trivandrum was much more comfortable and enjoyable, but it was too late when i realised that.

Getting up early in the morning at 8:30 and going to office at 9:30 and coming back at 6:00. With a lunch break of over 1 hour and tight working schedule in between, it was pretty exciting. And friends played a major part in making it a wonderful time, though i did not realise it at that point of time. ^ of us all friends from college staying together and working - it was fun. There was nothing much to care about. Get up when u want ,
eat whatever you want, do whatever you want - it was kind of a dream life. But we found it boring!! how pathetic!! It was a pretty awkward scene for anyone entering from outside into the great world of 'MadhuSylam" (our house). With 4-5 chairs scattered here and there, TV(always up and running), the carom board, Clothes, shoes, socks and newspaper lying on the floor - You can call it anything u like.. cluttered , messy, filthy or whatever.. but to us it was heavens!!. . For some of us it would be the place to phone, for others it would be the place to watch movies on the computer(with all kinds of ratings, U/A.. :) )etc.. And we had two wheelers, four wheelers at our mercy. I remember the times we did not even bother to walk 100 m to the nearest store buy something. But things have changed...

Life in a metro is quite different. Back in trivandrum, we had lots of time and had nothing to do.. but now i have lots of thing to do, but no time!!. getting up at seven and rushing to the bus stop by 7:50 is quite a big task -- a lot tougher than writing Perl scripts or debugging informatica jobs :) . And the traffic.. oh my god!! more than one hour for 10 Kms!! With warhorse(my bike) i used to reach office in 20 minutes(10 Km) in all kinds of traffic. but this is terrible. But credit should be given to the bus drivers. I think they do a fantastic job to get us to office in time. Apart from hearing all the so called unparliamentary words from other drivers, they keep their concentration on the road and also manage to throw back some the words dished out to them.. and as far i can see they are doing great.

And the one good thing that has come to my life in this metro is the PS2. Yes the little black box from sony has at least given me something to cheer about. I used to play fifa till 2:00 in the morning.. so the only difference is that i am looking at a samsung TV rather than a PC monitor!!.

But i had to loose so many good things in life to gain a PS2 and some money and of course a good job.

The job is good because it hasn't started yet.. :)

So overall my life in this metro is kinda 'sweet n sour'!!
